Task: You will find, read and write a 2 paragraph summary of a science news article.
Procedure:
You will find a current scientific article from the internet, newspaper, journal or magazine that was published within the last month (31 days).
You may NOT use Wikipedia, encyclopedias or textbooks.Watching a current event on TV or seeing an online video will not count.
Paragraphs must be double-spaced and typed size 12 font.Text has to be in a “normal” font such as arial, times new roman, georgia, calibri, etc...Handwritten copies will be allowed as long as your handwriting is legible and you use dark ink. First name, last name, title, period, and date must be included at the top of the summary (see the example for detail).
Each paragraph must have 6-8 sentences. That means that your article must be long enough to write 2 paragraphs.
Carefully read the article and write the summary in your OWN words. Be careful to not plagiarize the story.
Acceptable science news is anything that relates to technology, geology, astronomy, medicine, health, biology, meteorology/climate, archaeology, physics, chemistry or oceanography.
The 1st paragraph is a summary in your own words. 5 details/facts must be pulled from the article and rewrite it in your OWN words. The second paragraph of the assignment must include why it relates to science and/or how the information was beneficial to you or may be beneficial to someone else. For example, an article about pesticides might be relevant to a farmer or an article on a hurricane might be relevant to the towns that it affected.
You MUST attach a copy of the article to your summary.
