Please read this information carefully and bookmark for quick reference.
Please know that I am here: If you would like extra assistance, please let me know. I am available for individual help during my planning periods and before or after school by appointment. I will usually be in the science workroom. My webpage is the best source for information for this class. This page contains links to class content, the calendar of assignments, class policies, my schedule, etc. Please feel free to email me at[email protected] if you have any questions. I will also keep Phoenix updated frequently with your grades.
Required Materials for this course: Workbook [provided], 3-ring binder, pens/pencils (only blue or black ink permitted on graded assignments), lined paper, school agenda or similiar item to keep track of assignments.
Internet Access
Many assignments require accessing online resources. Students who do not have home computer/internet access will need to complete the assignments at a school computer before/after school, in study hall, or in the public library.
You will not be able to print in the classroom – come prepared!
Honor Code
As members of the PFHS school-community, we are responsible for upholding and contributing to an atmosphere of respect, truthfulness, and fairness. Our Honor Code serves as a commitment to intellectual honesty and states, “On my honor, I have neither given nor received unauthorized aid on this test, quiz, assignment, lab, or any other student-generated work.”
Late Work
I will accept late large assignments (projects, papers, etc.) for one week after the due date. Students lose 10% for each calendar day the assignment is late.
Bring Your Own Technology (see class rules)
We are a BYOT school and embrace responsible use of technology that provides deeper, more authentic, and more personalized learning experiences for students. Electronic devices, such as cell phones, are to be used to enhance, not replace, teaching and learning. Students are expected to abide by the classroom teacher’s rules and directions when using technology during class time. We expect all Panthers to be Ready, Responsible, and Respectful regarding the use of technology and how its use can impact self and others.
Absences
Going to school and getting your education is considered your job. Your pay is new knowledge, skills and abilities. You are still responsible for material covered in your absence, even if you are unable to make up the activity itself.
It is your responsibility to read the calendar on my website to see what what taught during your absence.
With an excused absence, you may make up missed work for full credit. Missed tests, quizzes and labs must be made up within one week from the date of absence.
It is your responsibility to arrange a date to make up missed assessments. See me before or after class or email to arrange a make up date for any tests, quizzes and labs.
Pick up any materials at the front table as you enter the room.
Place completed homework on your desk and take out your workbook.
Write down the homework from the board and begin the daily warm-up.
During class
Be respectful, engaged, and contribute to the class.
Follow all class rules.
End of class
Clean the area around your desk before you leave. Especially clean up any mess created from a lab activity!
Pack up your belongings only after you have been asked to do so.
Push in your chair.
Classroom Behavior
Be respectful
Act with respect and courtesy to me, your classmates, and anyone else who crosses your path. This includes respecting others’ ideas, time, and possessions.
Be present
Arrive promptly and prepared to learn. Bring all required materials to class each day.
Our time together is to be used to discuss, learn, and explore this subject. It is not the time to work on other subjects' assignments.
Take time between classes to use the restroom and fill up your water bottle. During class is not the ideal time to do so.
Be engaged and willing to learn
Ask questions, participate in discussions, and engaged fully in the lesson. I assure you, its the best/easiest way to learn the content.
Cell phones must be silenced and stored in your backpack during the entire class period.
Ear buds/headphones are not permitted in or around ears during class.
Be accountable
Check the calendar several times a week to stay on top of coursework.
Complete classwork and homework on time, seek help when needed (see #5).
Grades aren’t given in this class, they are earned.
Take Initiative
Ask for help when needed and do so within a realistic time frame. The morning before an assessment is NOT the time to first seek help.
Consequences
The behavioral expectations listed above are in place to promote a positive and productive learning environment. Student behavior that distracts from this collective goal will be addressed in the following manner. Re: cell phone and ear bud/headphone use in class, excessive bathroom pass use (excludes medical and emergent needs), disrespect, tardiness
1st Violation: Verbal Warning, documentation in gradebook 2nd Violation: All of the above + discussion with student outside of class 3rd Violation: All of the above + contact parent/guardian 4th Violation: All of the above + referral to administrator for further action
