Metamorphic rocks are formed from exposure to extreme heat and pressure deep within the Earth's surface caused by magma or the intense collisions and friction of tectonic plates.
There are 2 types of metamorphic rock: foliated and non-foliated.
Metamorphic rocks have two methods by which they can be formed: being in contact (or near) magma, or in a region of the crust where pressure builds up.
